By about noon on Tuesday, it already felt like it had been a long week. When most hope seemed lost, a perfectly lovely little pop song clocking in at 2:07 found my ears. Not having recalled hearing it before, I threw caution to the wind and brazenly took my iPod from my pocket in broad daylight.
It turned out to be a song called "Seventeen Dirty Magazines" by a band called Modern Skirts. Modern Skirts? But they're guys! That's crazy! Where the hell did this come from? I played it over and over until I thought I smelled smoke, gave it a rest and then started again.
I finally got all modern myself, did a search and saw that the band was from Athens GA. I knew where to look next - over at Beth's place. Sho' nuff, she'd posted the song on one of her mix tapes on November 23, 2007. I must have downloaded it at the time, let it ferment and foment and ta-da. Even when you're not thinking about blogging, it creeps back in. Thanks Beth!
If you'd like a listen, be my guest.

The ipod is the best invention of all time. Well, that and the blackberry.
I love when a song comes up that you haven't heard forever. This has a TMBG flavor - short, quirky lyrics and similar vocals. Nice!
You sure know how to make up for lost time. I'm not saying that 32 listens in a row is excessive, but it's a good thing there weren't any bbq tools around.
I love finding some forgotten morsel like that. You're a lucky man, Dale!
never heard of them looking forward to listening to the tune on my ipod
talk about not getting a song out of your head
Beth and Barbara are the source of so much musical knowledge
And you Dale are the source of such exquisite ephemera.
(You like that word, don't cha?)
Sometimes my playlist runs out and I end up in shuffle mood. I love hearing those songs I haven't listened to in years, and sometimes I get obsessed with a particular song for a while, especially if it seems to mirror something in my life.
It's right up there Dr. Zibbs. What about the Bedazzler though? Isn't it Top 10 material?
It hit me in the right spot Chris at the right moment and I'm better for it.
All sharp objects were secured before the mania began Barbara, I'm an organized mental case.
I'm very lucky Bubs and only occasionally have to remind myself.
Listen and let me know what you think AC, a catchy little number I thought. They've been out on tour in the UK with REM and have a new album about to come out.
There's such limited space Distributor Cap that it may have to give way for something else soon but I don't mind it being stuck in there right now.
After looking up the meaning, I'm not sure if I like it or not Gifted Typist. It looks and sounds nice though.
Is that why the backs of the iPods are mirrored then PJ?
I've noticed that if songs are longer than two minutes, I skip to the next one. I like bands who don't waste their time with "bridges" or "two and a half minute songs."
when i get into a song i listen to it about a gazillion times! i will check it out as soon as i post this.
But because of your rule, you're missing out on this one Pistols, skip about 4 seconds at the start and 3 or 4 at the end and enjoy the rest!
What happened Princess? Did it change your life? Are you now unable to comment?
seems to me that's exactly what Ipods are for. They let you leave so much music on your player, you can still be pleasantly surprised.
Though didn't an unplayed song that old have mold on it or something?
No discernible mold on the song but perhaps a little on me Chancelucky. I have far more music than I should. Things start playing all the time and I think 'where the hell did I pick that up?'.
I love being influential.
I love that you are too Beth!
Thanks for the comment Dale!
The new album, All Of Us In Our Night, will be available via iTunes sometime this month (I think the 20th) or if you prefer, you can hunt down a physical copy via Redeye distribution.
By the way, the guys are super nice. I recorded on their first two albums and have heard the third. Really good stuff.
Take care.
Thanks for the information Russell. After I heard Seventeen Dirty Magazines (many times), I bought the album on iTunes and have really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the new release. How great that you've been involved in the recordings, you must be so proud. They're a talented group of guys and I include you in that statement.
