The Answer Man

Puss in Boots, better known as Michael G, tagged me to answer a series of very intrusive questions but as he thought to say please?, the sheer force of his politeness compelled me to comply.

Five names you go by

1. Dale
2. POTD - Katie Schwartz is responsible for that.
3. Daisy - I don't really go by it but a client at work once very badly misheard my first name and thought it was Daisy. I thoughtfully had her killed.
4. Pennywinkle - one of my brothers used to call me this and I have no idea why, I wonder if it's too late to ask?
5. Fuckface - me, a name I call myself.

Three things you are wearing right now

1. Layers
2. At least 3
3. See above

Two things you want very badly at the moment

1. Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic - and I shall have it, in about 45 minutes.
2. For winter to be over (cue the We've Only Just Begun music).

Three people who will probably fill this out

1. PJ

Two things you did last night

1. Ate crispy beef with ginger (that's small 'g' ginger and not Ginger Grant).
2. Watched half of Tropic Thunder before giving up (the fake movie ads were better than the movie itself).

Two things you ate today

2. Leftover General Tso's Chicken

Two people you last talked to on the phone

1. My mother the tactician

Two things you are going to do tomorrow

1. Optimistically speaking, I have to go with wake up
2. Watch a film called The Fall that Mob mentioned a while back

Two longest car rides

1. From small city New Brunswick to big city Ontario (16 hours - my father killed several birds by driving so fast even they could not manoeuver out of his way)
2. Any cab ride where I don't feel like small talking my way home (feels like 16 hours)

Two of your favourite beverages
1. Coca Cola
2. Bloody Caesars - clamato juice - yes it's made with clams, but there's alcohol involved! Try it!

Please feel free to play the home game!

Fabulous. You can just call me PIB. Thanks for playing! Who is this General Tso? Why is his chicken so tasty?

Layers are good, especially now that it's winter time. Your culinary choices are outstanding. And, finally, I have to agree with you that waking up is an excellent way to start the day.

"Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic?"

You rock! I'll even overlook the shortbread with almonds.

Isn't the point of putting Clamato in, is not to include alcohol?

If I lived in Canada, I'd pretend every day was Halloween and I'd go as a 7-layer burrito. Except my layers would involve things made of wool instead of refried beans, cheese, and anything interesting or enjoyable to others.

Bloody Caesars? You live in a land of some of the best beermakers in the world and you are sipping the juice of shellfish? You do know they tend to be full of mercury right? Socrates opted for the hemlock instead. Even the Korean Bagel Lady wouldn't have the heart to ladle that out to you.

Maybe I can convince you to try a bottle of La Fin Du Monde from Unibroue of Chambly (Que) Canada and leave the shellfish for your Prime Minister.

It has an excellent bouquet matched only by it's robust flavour which is brought out by it's triple fermentation. It is the perfect potable for watching your neighbors with, or to compliment cranberry scones after a full day of playing hookey from work and just watching the snow fall. It also goes with an evening of Jack london's "Klondike Tales" provided you are alone and wearing a scarf and wool socks.

Just a suggestion.

As far as Fuckface goes, I think that is a name that isn't easily acquired, but should be should be spoken with some amount of pride. Any random stranger can be a subject of stereotyping, but it takes a particular strain of person to be a Fuckface.

General Tso's chicken is the standard that I hold any Chinese restaurant by. If they can't make this well, I never return.

Long story short, drink the beer and leave the shellfish alone. You'll live longer.

So do you get ALL the leftovers each time you go out to dinner? I do!

I too love Coke but they need to bring back the kind with sugar and not the despised HFCS. The only way I know of to get sugar Coke here in the US is during Passover, which might be a lot harder now that I no longer live in New York.

This post is overwhelming me with the strong smell of garlic

Passion of the Daisy!!

Whoo hooo- your truest self emerges!

Hey PIB! This is all your fault! When the General gives you an order like 'eat this chicken roundeye!' you don't dare disobey.

There's a great pan-Asian place here called Szechuan Szechuan Bubs that I'd like to wake up to every day, or at least go to later in the day.

It's magically delicious Cormac, there's a ton of good stuff in it - fresh thyme, cream, cognac, dry white wine - not a hint of Clamato though.

I'll stop short of calling you a tasty dish Pistols, all that wool stuck between my teeth doesn't add up.

Oh Doc, I love a good beer too and maybe I'll even look for your recommendation. I hate to anger a beer swami such as yourself. Beer to me is always better when it's really hot and the beer's really cold but what do I know? I'm not much of a drinker really. I'll try harder though. Love, Fuckface.

Usually I'm not a leftovers kind of guy, too many sloppy seconds jokes to be made Coaster Punchman, but this food is deelish! You know who's got the good old tyme Coke? That bastard Ted Turner at his Ted's Montana Grill restaurants, it's from bottles even!

The garlic's not as strong as you'd think once it's all cooked down Gifted Typist. Or am I just fooling myself?

I was waiting for someone to seize on that Fran, they still tease me at work. Fuckers. Not you, well, maybe you, but I'd never say it out loud.

Wait...were the Shortbread Cookies with Chocolate Covered Almonds baked in Leftover General Tso's Chicken? Sounds...gross.

Mmmm, you can never have too much garlic.

I second Doc's recommendation for La Fin Du Monde (or any Unibroue's brews). Good stuff. Although I do love Clamato too, and wish there were more seafood-based beverages around.

I filled this out btw.

Have you tried General Tso's Chicken flavored clamato juice? I hear it makes the best Bloody Caesars!

I need to take a page from your book and start layering.

Hmmm...Caesars. Its not too early to drink now, right? I mean its almost 11am.

I love the way you say "manoeuver," Daisy.

I'll take a layer of 40 garlic clove chicken, no wait! Make it 50! Cover this with a layer of shortbread cookies with stuff baked in it. Top the whole thing with 40 litres of Caesars. I would never need to leave the house again.

Jenny Jenny Flannery said...

I love the new look, by the way.

That does sound gross Tanya but I want to try those candies you're on about at your place now!

I'm good with just one seafood based beverage Phronk but I'll definitely take my blog to the bar with me next time so you and Doc can sit there and help guide my choices.

It's amazing what they sometimes garnish the drinks with Skyler's Dad so if I see chicken hanging out the top, I may not be as scared as you'd think. I've had them with shrimp in them, tomato/cucumber, spicy green beans, it's like all 4 food groups really.

Never ever wear a watch Allison, just drink and drink and drink and drink!

I spelled it wrong didn't I Flannery? I'm a maroon which is a little like a moron.

It does sound so repellent Jen but have you tried it?

Barbara, are you inviting me over for winter?! Careful, I might show up with supplies!

Thanks Flannery, it was Chris Radloff who done it.

Mission completed: Meme it is

Jenny Jenny Flannery said...

It's not that you spelled it wrong, you just spelled it Canadian, which is great.

Um, I'm confused about something. If General Tso had leftover chicken, wouldn't he have wanted it?
