The short version - my Dad turned 80, relatives arrived, the Chinese restaurant we went to caught fire during our meal and we had to be evacuated.
I was to leave town this morning but we've been hit with just the type of flight canceling snowstorm I adore. I won't be able to get a flight out until tomorrow evening.
More to follow.

Now that's adventure.
I've heard of hot dishes before, and Chinese dishes can be especially spicy, but that's beyond expectation.
As long as you don't have to shovel the runway, count yourself lucky.
Oh, I can tell an excellent adventure story is about to be written!
I think the Korean Bagel Lady has some damn good connections.
Leonesse is right!
And what you won't do for attention and to get out of a day of work...tsk tsk.
Well, you can't say it wasn't a memorable birthday for your father. Have a safe trip back.
Restaurant on fire? I know I don't have any evidence, but I'm going to go ahead and blame you. Or your dad. I don't really know anyone else who was there.
Was it the raging heat of eighty candles?
Smokey the Bear says: Once you reach the age of 75, consider having your party outdoors.
Too bad it wasn't the "Chinese restaurant fire-putting-out" kind of snowstorm.
Now I want some Chinese food.
Yow! When do we get the long, detail-laden entertaining version?
And your point is?
Sheesh- honestly Dale, that sounds so made up it can't possibly be so!
Can't wait to hear more.
Sounds like a giant conspiracy concocted by the gods of octogenarian parties and flight weather. And you have obviously pissed them off.
Hopefully, you'd all had a huge meal and were just about to leave when it happened -- and of course didn't have to pay!
I hope no one was injured.... but I suspect that things catching fire when the family of Dale is gathered isn't all that rare, because you all seem like an incendiary bunch.
Or did someone misunderstand the directions about lighting candles on the birthday cake?
now that's a party!
Wow! What an exciting 80th birthday celebration! Hope you are able to come home soon.
told you to watch out for the forks, they're flammable.
Never a dull moment WP, except for the ones in between fires.
It may have been why the Szechuan was extra hot X. Dell. I made it back after a one day delay and very little shovelling. Of snow anyway.
I hope it was excellent Suze but I'm tired.
She had the weirdest smile on her face when I saw her this time Leonesse.
You had a baby to do it Tanya, why can't I set a fire and command the snow gods to do my bidding?
Memorable for all of us Chancelucky! I made it home the following day.
There were about 20 or so suspects Pistols but the good money's on me or Dad.
Smokey's onto something there Kat. I told my father not to get this old!
Fire and Ice, why can't they be friends Beckeye?
After the place starting burning, I felt like bbq Grant.
Some details left out Bubs due to exhaustion but it's there now.
I love it when life is stranger than anything I can think up Fran. Is it wrong that when I see your name instead of thinking Fran I Am, I think more like frayneeum?
It's my job Barbara and I'm looking for a promotion.
We were pretty much finished Patrick but I'm still mad I didn't get coffee. And yep, we paid.
You're on the money there Holly, where Dale and family go, fire follows.
It's a dud unless the cops or firemen get called 668.
Made it Mellowlee! It was fun and weird.
The chopsticks might have been more flammable Bluez, I'm just glad we got out.
