View From The Top

Whenever anyone mentions superstition, my mother pipes up with "I once won 500 dollars on Friday the 13th so it's always been a lucky day for me!" I haven't got the heart to tell her "no, it's only been lucky for you that once".

I wasn't really worried about the prospect of a Friday the 13th flight home and ending up in the 13th row didn't faze me much either. From where I sat, I could tell that the snakes had been safely quarantined with their expense accounts in First Class so all I really had to contend with was a brigade of squalling babies. After climbing into the overhead bin and getting comfortable, it was pretty smooth sailing the rest of the way.

I've now added London to the list of places I would enjoy living if I were to become wealthy. The overhead bins? They're not on that list.

I hate the flight back from Europe. The flight over is okay — I'm excited and most of the trip is overnight, so it's easy to sleep. Going home, I'm tired and depressed to be returning to a non-wealthy reality, and damn if the sun isn't shining the entire way.

I love London, too; trying to get there this fall. Come stalk me.

I thought you were supposed to stuff the babies in the overhead bins.

Dale, I adore London. I had the opportunity to spend a good deal of time there when I was younger and fell in love. I still think of it often, kind of like an old love. I would absolutely move there if life provided the right opportunity. As I think I have stated before, next to Chicago, it is my favorite city. Third place goes to Melbourne, Australia (nice mix of cultures). I have missed travelling. Now that the kids are getting older, I can see the promise of travel again on the horizon.

A couple of snake recruited from first class would have taken care of the squalling baby issue, quick-snap.

Glad you had a good journey. I'm looking forward to your Tower of London pics, and hearing about your trip.

Perhaps we can take up a collection on our blogs to help us recover from the crushing poverty that is now ours due to our respective visits. PayPal, anyone?

I can only assume that there were 13 babies crying as well?

Glad you had a safe trip home.

Hey, at least you end up in high places. Those of us who can't reach into the overhead bins are stowed away under the seat for your safety.

You are hilarious as always, Mr. Dale. Welcome back to wherever you are!

Oh dear. Squalling babies on a plane. Where's a singing nun with a guitar when you need one?

I heard that they don't observe Friday the 13th in England. Kinda like the 4th of July.

I'd love to stalk you in London Beth, so many great and groovy places to hide and go seek. I slept a little both ways and managed to actually avoid the lag for the most part.

There were too many of them Lulu so I opted for the easy way in.

I'm a big fan now of London Tenacious S. and I can see why it'd be easy to fall in love with it. Let's hope that the right opportunities present themselves! Chicago sounds cool just by the number of interesting bloggers entangling the web there and Australia I'm sure would be excellent.

This is why I need consultants on every trip Barbara. I'll check with my accountant regarding this necessary expense for next trip.

I'll post something soon on the tower for you Bubs. I'm glad to be home now.

PayPal sounds like a decent idea CP. Maybe if we post more childhood photos people would donate?

Was that you I heard laughing from the front of the plane Valerie?! :-)

There had to be at least 7 in the near vicinity Mob. I actually booked Row 13 after checking in online the day before. They had me in Row 12 but I figured if I was going to go, it should be all the way. Living on the edge aren't I?

It's you and the life jackets under there is it Geeti? I'll never be able to figure out how to get the damned thing inflated so I'm glad you're there for me.

The only harm was to my wallet Mr. F. Cynic. I loved London a lot, charming city and people.

I actually thought of the Airplane movies and that nun while on board Berry so good call there!

Fearless, I learned nothing new or snazzy even though clearly I'm on the cutting edge of everything. It was all I could do to make sense of the tough words like Hello and Thank You.

Nobody made a fuss at all Beckeye and that's just why I came home. Commie bastards.

Perhaps you shouldn't fear sitting in the 13th row on Friday the 13th, especially since your flight number wasn't 1313, or 666, or some other ill omen.

Dale said...

Thanks Katie, you crack me up repeatedly and even, gasp, make me think now and then.

It was 099 so I felt pretty safe X. Dell.
