When I Was A Boy

Thinking about Jane Siberry the other day started me listening to some of the other Strange Angels I enjoy from time to time. There must be extra Liz Phairemones in the air or something.

A CD that I've compiled in various incarnations for people has for cover art the blue opera diva from a film I love, The Fifth Element. The tracks on the current mix of Strange Angels goes a little something like this:

Secret - Meryn Cadell
Hello Earth - Kate Bush
Diva Dance - Fifth Element Soundtrack
Strange Angels - Laurie Anderson
Glory Box - Portishead
Song To The Siren - This Mortal Coil
Come On Home - Everything But The Girl
De Cara A La Pared - Lhasa
Body's In Trouble - Mary Margaret O'Hara
Llorando - Rebekah Del Rio

And I'm still working on it. How do I fit Liz Phair, Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden, Anne Sofie von Otter and a dozen others on and make it work?

Warning to men - I practically grew breasts just typing the list so beware. Should I have put that up there first?

If you like the Diva Dance from Fifth Element, you might like my review of Lucia Di Lammermoor, the opera the piece comes from.

Liz Phairemones = Genius!

That's some seriously girly shit, Dale. Sarah McLachlan? Really? She's too girly for me, and I already have breasts.

Great movie huh MellowLee?

I know Lulu, I'll have to work on an all testosterone post now. I've got the title for it already. I've taped mine down.

Without being too graphic, I can imagine the advantages a man might have if he grew breasts.

Dale, this is why you rock. You're the only other person I know who likes "Llorando" from Mulholland Drive. It's a wicked song, that scene gave me goose bumps. Rebekah Del Rio is amazing.

I think you should change your dissertation subject and get very graphc X. Dell.

Angela - The scene has stayed with me more than any other from the film and Rebekah is fantastic. Should we start a club now that there are two of us?

You must know then that Jane Siberry is now Issa?

Yes, isn't it strange? I wonder what the heck she's up to?

We've had two people at work in the last few years change their names, one to a very plain sounding name and the other to a very spiritual multi-part name.

What should my new name/persona be?

Love this! Think I need to send you some blank CDs for that mix tape you've been promising ...

Will you get uncomfortable if I stare at your breasts while chatting you up?

To fit the Phairemones into this playlist, I suggest "Canary" from "Exile in Guyville." It seems the most appropriate choice, at least to me.

Dale said...

Well you've changed your last name to Espanya so you're limited unless you go for a complete overhaul Tanya.

I think I should get to work on that Beth shouldn't I? Please stare as it will keep you distracted while I procrastinate.

Saviour, a fine suggestion, Liz is a Strange Angel too and Canary would probably fit in well. I'll give it a go.

No Cocteau Twins?

Dale said...

Argh! I knew there was something missing there. Cocteau Twins belong in a mix like that if anyone does. I guess I thought I was covering myself with This Mortal Coil. Good call BD.

Hells yeah, let's start that club!! :-)

It'll be a little downbeat but it'll be really cool Angela. We'll have Rebekah drop by to drop down in the middle of things.

Ooooh, sounds sweet! Dale, you've got fantastic taste in movies and music! There, I had to declare it.

Why you do declare. You're so smart I can't stand it!
